Basics for every vine

Position
Full sun, at least 6–8 hours a day, and soil that drains well.
Planting
Ideally from November to March. Container-grown vines can be planted later too, with regular watering.
Support
A pergola, wires or a stake from the first year, depending on how the vine is trained.
Watering
Regular for the first two years. After that, less often but deeply.
Pruning
Every winter, while the vine is dormant. The type of pruning depends on the variety.
Protection
Powdery and downy mildew are the main risks. Protect preventively from bud break and keep the canopy well aired.
