Strawberry Grapevine ('Fraoula')

Vitis vinifera L. ‘Henab Turki’

‘Fraoula’ takes its name from its scent, not its shape — red seeded berries with the distinctive aroma everyone remembers from the old orchards. It is a traditional variety of the Cypriot market and ripens very late, closing the season. Precisely because it comes in so late, harvest lands in the first autumn rains: it needs planning, and cover if the year turns wet. It is identified with Henab Turki (VIVC 5350) on the basis of a Cypriot synonym source; its origin is Turkey and the eastern Mediterranean.
